What is a lift assist and how can I get help?

Uncategorized

Often times when someone is disabled, injured, or elderly a simple mistep can lead to a non-injury fall to the ground. Often times it can be hard, painful, or nearly impossible to get off the ground by yourself in these situations. The fire department is happy to help and the service is free. Lift assists are available 24/7 and can be initiated by calling 9-1-1 for service. Just explain the situation to the dispatcher and the fire department will arrive without lights and sirens (discreetly) and will help you off the ground. We will often offer to check vitals and ask medical related questions to ensure that you are safe. If the fall is out of the ordinary for you or you could be experiencing a medical emergency we can discreetly order an ambulance for you and get you the help you need.

Often times people are hesitant to ask for help because they think we will come with lights and sirens and make a huge scene. For a lift assist we do not use our lights and sirens. Another reason is people think that it is going to cost money. Your fire department is a free service paid for by your tax dollars not by us billing you for services. The last reason is they think it is a bother to us. We work 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. We live at the station right next to our equipment. It is our job, duty, and privilage to help you with whatever you need. Please don’t hesitate to call us.

Sometimes when we arrive we hear from people that they waited hours to call because they did not know what to do or had a concern listed above. If you or your loved one has a potential to need this service please coach them with the details in this article before an incident occurs. Staying on the ground for hours can cause further medical problems and undo pain or discomfort.

Remember, we arrive discreetly, it is free, we are happy to help, so call 9-1-1 for a non-injury fall where you cannot get off the ground.
